The dead lived more than me!

~CHAPTER 1~

 "He wasn't breathing,".....

She checked his pulse again; no response. He was dead, his body was freezing cold. How long had he been lying there? How did he die? Was he murdered, or did he have a heart stroke? She couldn't see any wounds or blood around his body. Her mind was all over the place. She always thought of herself as a strong girl, but her hands were shaking now. She broke into a cold sweat. She could not direct her thoughts.

What was she supposed to do? Should she call the police or a hospital? Panic got the best of her. She left him lying there on the street and ran away. Her heart was disappointed in her; she wanted to go back, but her feet were adamant not to turn back. She kept running until her feet gave up.

She ended up right in front of her house, driven by the instinct to seek safety. She felt at peace, sitting on the stairs in front of her door.

She fell asleep there.

She woke up from the sound of her phone ringing. She was getting a call. "Who could be calling me at this hour?" she wondered, confused. She picked up the call.

"Hello ma'am, I am from the Chicago Police Station," the man on the other end said.

Shocked,.....

the blood in her veins froze, and her heart raced but, She managed to respond,

"Hello, yes, this is Susan."

"Ma'am, we found your ID card beside a dead body," the man said in his husky voice.

Her chest felt like it was about to explode, and in her shock, she lashed out at the police. You mother fucker, are you out of your mind. How can you call someone at this hour and accuse them of murder; asshole, son of a bitch. The call got disconnected. It didn't take her long to realise how big of a mistake she had made.

She suddenly remembered what her grandmother told her years ago, 'Susie, remember one thing, never let your anxiety and anger get the best out of you.' She broke into tears, her mind couldn't accept how fast her world had changed.

Two hours ago, she was at her desk in her office, chatting with Felix, her boyfriend. They were planning to go to a fancy restaurant for their third anniversary together. At that very moment, she was the happiest person in the whole world. Two hours later, she was sitting on her doorsteps, regretting her action with all she got.

She was skipping from one thought to another, and at the moment, the strongest thought was about Felix. Would this be the gift she would be giving Felix for their anniversary?

Susie was never a motivated person; she was always bored with life. She had never wanted something out of life. But things had changed after she met Felix. She started believing in love, life, and most importantly, destiny. She had dated men of almost all professions before she met Felix, the drummer at the bar where she was DJing.

Their first kiss was magical. She had kissed several men before Felix, but she had never felt so strongly for anyone. She melted the first time their lips met. His tongue stirred up every emotion she had ever felt. She was tense but at the same time relaxed like never before. For the first time, she felt motivated towards life. A person who had admired death her whole life was suddenly motivated towards life.

Susie once told a friend about how she felt with Felix. Her friend mocked her, calling her delusional and doubting her feelings. Elle told Susie, "A girl with your personality will never stick to one man." Susie was disappointed in her, but she knew in her bones that Felix was the one. She had faith in her love for him.

Even though she only showed a tiny part of her personality to Elle, she still felt hurt over Elle's judgment. She knew that no matter what, she should never hurt Felix, because he was the only person who accepted her with all her flaws. No one had ever made her want to see a new sunrise, to make her life seem interesting, and to make it worth living. Anyway she was too much in love to cry over betrayal in friendship.

She used to try every good and bad experience available to her. People thought she was an attention seeker, but little did they know how desperately she wanted something to make her want to live.

It was like her whole life was before her eyes. There was nothing she regretted about her life, but now she knew she was going to experience the biggest regret of her life, a regret that would die with her.

Her phone rang again, displaying a special word from someone she treasured. "Mi Tesoro," the screen showed. It was a Spanish word meaning "my treasure." To others, it might not feel special, but for Susie, this word was magical. The name of a person she truly treasured, saved in the language dear to her heart.
